Summer Fun. Traverse City.
Registration for the 2021 Waves Summer Softball Tournament Series is in full gear. Our tournaments are designed for teams that are looking for a fun, quality tournament in a city where there is a LOT to do in the late spring and summer. 2021 marks the 16th year that the Traverse City Waves have hosted tournaments for teams from around Michigan, the Midwest and Canada. Please visit our tournament pages to read about past tournaments and to register your team to play in 2021.
Here's an update on remaining spots in each tournament as of 2/7/2021....
As we turn the page on 2020 and look forward to a MUCH better 2021, we would like to wish our tournament teams--players, coaches, parents and fans--a Happy New Year with best wishes for a great 2021. We are so much looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the playing fields of Traverse City for what should be another fun, quality summer softball tournament series.
In 2020, we were able to host five of our six normally-scheduled tournaments, which was a minor miracle. You might recall that large gatherings, even outside, were prohibited until late-June. We believe that the Northern Classic was the first outdoor tournament held in Michigan last year, because the only places "open" at that time were in Regions 7 and 8 (or 6 and 7, or whatever regions northern Michigan and the U.P. encompass). Because circumstances were changing so rapidly, we had to be ultra-flexible with our plans and tournament formats. THANK YOU to all of the teams that understood the need to "go with the flow" and were able to be flexible enough so that the girls could get on the field and have fun playing softball after being cooped up inside all spring.
The Waves is an organization formed in 2004 and based in Traverse City that provides the opportunity for young players to learn and enjoy the game of softball. Former Waves players have had successful high school sports and academic careers...played softball in college...won national championships in rowing...earned all-area, all-region, and all-state honors in softball and other sports...made successful transitions into college, graduated from college, established professional careers...and more! The Waves organization has funded over $11,000 in college scholarships--the Barb Beckett and Billie Drake Scholarships, named after two prominent supporters of youth sports in the Traverse City area--and continues to emphasize providing opportunities for girls to excel athletically and academically while having fun playing softball.
The Waves hosted the fifteenth Traverse City Softball Spectacular in 2020. Because of overwhelmingly positive feedback from our visiting teams, we added the Northern Classic tournament in 2008 to allow more teams the opportunity to combine a mini-vacation in the Traverse City area with a first class, enjoyable tournament. The Cherry Capital Showdown was added to the tournament schedule a few years ago and has quickly become a favorite among teams from throughout the state. In 2016, the Spring Splash was added to the series, an early-season tournament for younger teams. The three-year-old Bayside Bash offers a chance to experience the National Cherry Festival along with playing in a fun, quality tournament. Finally, 2016 also saw the start of the Futures Challenge, a low-key one day tune-up tournament for teams that have just selected their squads for next summer season. We would love to have your team participate in our tournaments. Please visit our tournament pages for details on the individual tournaments.
