Summer Fun. Traverse City.
Never mind the snow that blanketed the Traverse City area on May 1st. Chances are it will be looo-ooong gone by the time the Traverse City Summer Softball series gets underway in June. Yep....chances are....
We can't wait to see the thousands of players that will take the field for their teams very soon! Before we see the players, though, we will be releasing the tournament schedules on a rolling basis. The Spring Splash, Northern Classic, Cherry Capital Showdown and Bayside Bash tournament rules and schedules are available now. All tournament results will be posted on the Tourney Machine app which is free to download at the app store. As we close in on the start of the tournament series, please visit the tournament pages frequently for updates, rules, schedules, apparel ordering, and more!
Sure, the games are fun. Sure, there is plenty to do in Traverse City after (or before) your games. Sure, it hardly ever rains in Traverse City, except for when it rains. But what is key to your favorite player performing well on the field and having fun with her teammates is knowing she has some tournament swag waiting for her at the end of the weekend. Click on any apparel picture you see on the website to visit THREADS and place your tournament pre-order!

Who are the Pit Spitters, you might ask? They are Traverse City's local baseball team in the Northwoods League, and their games are a blast!
If you've never seen minor league baseball in Traverse City, you really should give it a try at least once. The baseball games are a lot of fun, and the atmosphere is that of a big family party with the added benefit of being able to watch some good baseball close up. The Pit Spitters have been kind enough to offer group rates to all of our visiting teams on the weekends of June 9-11, June 16-18 and June 23-25. There is a group discount and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Waves Scholarship fund which provides scholarships for local graduating seniors (scroll down this page for details).
For information and to order tickets for a fun team night out, scroll down the page to find the 2023 TC Waves Group Flyer that contains details. You can also contact Ian Williamson of the Pit Spitters at IanW@PitSpitters.com or call 231-943-0100 ext. 204.
The Billie Drake scholarship, Barb Beckett scholarship and the Charles Bott scholarship, along with two Traverse City Waves scholarships--each in the amount of $500--were awarded recently to high school seniors in Grand Traverse County who played softball through their senior year and who exemplified a high level of academic achievement while volunteering in the community. Here are the 2023 scholarship recipients:

Congratulations, ladies!
It takes a lot of dedicated umpires to be able to host the large number of teams that participate in the Traverse City tournaments. We're fortunate to have some of the best umpires in Michigan in the local area. Thanks, gals and guys, for your good work on the softball fields!
There have been a lot of terrific players who have participated in the Waves summer tournaments. Our goal with "10-And-A-Half Questions With...." is to give you a chance to meet some of these top players and learn how they worked to hone their skills so that they had the opportunity to excel in high school and advance to become collegiate softball players.
The Waves is an organization formed in 2004 and based in Traverse City that provides the opportunity for young players to learn and enjoy the game of softball. Former Waves players have had successful high school sports and academic careers...played softball in college...earned all-area, all-region, and all-state honors in softball and other sports...made successful transitions into college, graduated from college, and established professional careers. The Waves organization has funded over $15,000 in college scholarships--the Barb Beckett, Billie Drake and Charlex Bott Scholarships, named after three prominent supporters of youth sports in the Traverse City area--and continues to emphasize providing opportunities for girls to excel while having fun playing softball.
The Waves hosted the seventeenth Traverse City Softball Spectacular in 2022. Because of overwhelmingly positive feedback from our visiting teams, we added the Northern Classic tournament in 2008 to allow more teams the opportunity to combine a mini-vacation in the Traverse City area with a first class, enjoyable tournament. The Cherry Capital Showdown was added to the tournament schedule several years ago and has become a favorite among teams from throughout the state and the midwest. In 2016, the Spring Splash was added to the series, an early-season tournament for younger teams. The five-year-old Bayside Bash offers older teams a chance to play in a fun, quality tournament. Finally, 2016 also saw the start of the Futures Challenge, a one-day tune-up tournament for teams that have just selected their squads for the next summer season. We hope to be able to welcome your team to one of our tournaments!
We realize that certain situations happen in the course of running a team--players leave, emergencies come up, etc. From a tournament standpoint, we begin planning for next year's tournaments very shortly after THIS year's tournaments end. By April, the tournament field is largely set and planning for the current year's tournaments has been underway for some time.
If a team notifies us prior to April 1st that their plans have changed, we can refund their entry fee. If we're notified on or after April 1st, unfortunately no refunds can be given.
Refund Policy once the tournament begins: - If no (0) games are played, 80% of each team’s tournament registration fee will be refunded. If games are played (at least one round played to completion) the registration fee is fully earned and no refunds will be given. If tourney must be cancelled due to act of God, prior to the start, teams will be refunded 85% of their entry fee.
