In 2018, the Traverse City Waves awarded six local softball players college scholarships that were available to graduating seniors who play softball for a Grand Traverse County high school. The Barb Beckett Scholarship, the Billie Drake Scholarship, and the Waves Scholarships are designed to promote academic excellence, community service and participation in varsity softball through the 12th grade in a Grand Traverse County high school. Here are the 2018 scholarship winners:
Caroline Peacock - Billie Drake Scholarship
Sarah Chouinard - Barb Beckett Scholarship
Kylee Gulliver - Waves Scholarship
Olivia Cvengros - Waves Scholarship
Jayla Wise - Waves Scholarship
Lacey Benton - Waves Scholarship
The Traverse City Waves have funded over $11,000 in college scholarships in the past seven years. Congratulations to ALL of the 2018 applicants for your dedication to excellence.
The Waves is an organization formed in 2004 and based in Traverse City, and provides the opportunity for young players to learn and enjoy the game of softball. Former Waves players have had successful high school sports and academic careers...played softball in college...won national championships in rowing...earned all-area, all-region, and all-state honors in softball and other sports...made successful transitions into college, graduated from college, established professional careers...and more! The Waves organization has funded over $11,000 in college scholarships and continues to emphasize providing opportunities for girls to excel athletically and academically while having fun playing softball.
The Waves hosted the thirteenth Traverse City Softball Spectacular in 2018. Because of overwhelmingly positive feedback from our visiting teams, we added the Northern Classic tournament in 2008 to allow more teams the opportunity to combine a mini-vacation in the Traverse City area with a first class, enjoyable tournament. The Cherry Capital Showdown was added to the tournament schedule a few years ago and has quickly become a favorite among teams from throughout the state. In 2016, the Spring Splash was added to the series, an early-season tournament for younger teams. The Bayside Bash offers a chance to experience the National Cherry Festival along with playing in a fun, quality tournament. Finally, 2016 also saw the start of the Futures Challenge, a low-key one day tune-up tournament for teams that have just selected their squads for next summer season. We would love to have your team participate in our tournaments. Please send a note if you're interested in bringing your team to Traverse City.
