The Futures Challenge: A Chance To Unwrap Your Newly-Selected Team

The Waves are happy to host The Futures Challenge, a fun one-day tournament for 10U, 12U and 14U teams.   The Futures Challenge provides an opportunity for coaches and parents to see their 2020 team in action.  Players--especially players NEW to travel softball--have a chance to experience tournament-level play in a laid-back atmosphere.  And coaches, players and parents have the opportunity to benchmark player skills prior to heading into off-season workouts.  Visit The Futures Challenge tournament page for information and to register your team.

Waves Award Scholarships To A Pair Of Seniors

Congratulations to graduating seniors Aubrey Haddix (Traverse City Central) and Ally Wood (Traverse City St. Francis) for earning scholarships from the Waves.  Aubrey, who is headed to the University of Michigan next fall, won the Barb Beckett Scholarship.  Ally, matriculated at Michigan Tech, captured the Billie Drake Scholarship (Billie Drake pictured at left). These scholarships are named after prominent local supporters of youth sports.  Both awards, sponsored by the Waves, serve to  promote and reward dedication to academic excellence, community service and participation in varsity softball through the 12th grade at a high school in Grand Traverse County.  The Waves have sponsored over $12,000 in scholarships over the past seven years.   Congratulations, Ladies!

Waves History

The Waves is an organization formed in 2004 and based in Traverse City, and provides the opportunity for young players to learn and enjoy the game of softball. Former Waves players have had successful high school sports and academic careers...played softball in college...won national championships in rowing...earned all-area, all-region, and all-state honors in softball and other sports...made successful transitions into college, graduated from college, established professional careers...and more!  The Waves organization has funded over $11,000 in college scholarships and continues to emphasize providing opportunities for girls to excel athletically and academically while having fun playing softball.

The Waves hosted the fourteenth Traverse City Softball Spectacular in 2019.  Because of overwhelmingly positive feedback from our visiting teams, we added the Northern Classic tournament in 2008 to allow more teams the opportunity to combine a mini-vacation in the Traverse City area with a first class, enjoyable tournament.  The Cherry Capital Showdown was added to the tournament schedule a few years ago and has quickly become a favorite among teams from throughout the state.  In 2016, the Spring Splash was added to the series, an early-season tournament for younger teams.  The two-year-old Bayside Bash offers a chance to experience the National Cherry Festival along with playing in a fun, quality tournament.  Finally, 2016 also saw the start of the Futures Challenge, a low-key one day tune-up tournament  for teams that have just selected their squads for next summer season.  We would love to have your team participate in our tournaments.  Please send a note if you're interested in bringing your team to Traverse City.
