THANK YOU to all of the teams that participated in the 2021 Traverse City Summer Softball Series. We had a fun series of five tournaments--the Bayside Bash was a washout from mid-Saturday morning onward, but to our knowledge we were the only tournament in the state to get in all games on Friday and start play on Saturday before the heavy rains hit. Overall, we hope our visiting teams and the dedicated and talented locally-based teams enjoyed the competition and the fun to be had in Traverse City! Visit the respective tournament pages for recaps, All-Tournament Teams, etc. Visit the Tourney Machine app for scores, standings and bracket play results.
The Traverse City Waves recently awarded $500 scholarships to three area seniors. Gabby Haddix (TC Central) won the Barb Beckett Scholarship....Avery Hawkins (Kingsley) was the recipient of the Billie Drake Scholarship....and Bell Gulliver (TC West) earned the Waves Scholarship. Congratulations ladies, and best wishes for a successful start to your college careers. (We don't have any pictures of Gabby, Avery or Bell, so for your enjoyment, shown at left is a picture of Billie Drake umpiring at one of our tournaments)
The Waves is an organization formed in 2004 and based in Traverse City that provides the opportunity for young players to learn and enjoy the game of softball. Former Waves players have had successful high school sports and academic careers...played softball in college...won national championships in rowing...earned all-area, all-region, and all-state honors in softball and other sports...made successful transitions into college, graduated from college, established professional careers...and more! The Waves organization has funded over $13,000 in college scholarships--the Barb Beckett and Billie Drake Scholarships, named after two prominent supporters of youth sports in the Traverse City area--and continues to emphasize providing opportunities for girls to excel athletically and academically while having fun playing softball.
The Waves hosted the sixteenth Traverse City Softball Spectacular in 2021. Because of overwhelmingly positive feedback from our visiting teams, we added the Northern Classic tournament in 2008 to allow more teams the opportunity to combine a mini-vacation in the Traverse City area with a first class, enjoyable tournament. The Cherry Capital Showdown was added to the tournament schedule several years ago and has become a favorite among teams from throughout the state and the midwest. In 2016, the Spring Splash was added to the series, an early-season tournament for younger teams. The four-year-old Bayside Bash offers a chance to experience the National Cherry Festival along with playing in a fun, quality tournament. Finally, 2016 also saw the start of the Futures Challenge, a one-day tune-up tournament for teams that have just selected their squads for next summer season. We would love to have your team participate in our tournaments. Please visit our tournament pages for details on the individual tournaments, or send a note of interest for the 2022 season to JSBrunner777@yahoo.com
