A lot of teams have registered to play in the 2023 Traverse City Summer Softball Series--we're glad to be able to welcome old friends and new ones to the tournaments later this year.

Tournament information and registration forms are posted on the tournament pages of our website. Click on the tournament name links above to go to the tournament pages. All of our tournaments are for Class B teams. We hope you can bring your teams to Traverse City next year for a fun weekend of softball !
The Traverse City Waves are happy to welcome the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa as a tournament sponsor for 2023!
The Resort is located approximately 10 minutes from the Grand Traverse County Civic Center, the Trojan Athletic Complex, and the other tournament sites at which games will be played. The Grand Traverse Resort features TWO large pools--one inside and one outside--along with shops and restaurants onsite. Downtown Traverse City is a short drive away, but if you want to head in the opposite direction, you'll find the charming village of Elk Rapids about 12 minutes to the north of the resort. Turtle Creek Casino is right around the corner.
One designated representative from each team can email Tammy Palmer to get information on contracted room blocks of 10 or more guestrooms per night. The resort is requiring two night minimum for TC Waves Tournament teams. Availability is limited so don’t wait to contact Tammy at Tammy.palmer@gtresort.com.
Should a team not wish to contract at least 10 guestrooms per night for two nights, please contact the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa reservations department at 231-534-6100 to book individual reservations. Currently the Grand Traverse Resort is sold out the weekend of June 2-4, 2023.
There have been a lot of terrific players who have participated in the Waves summer tournaments. Our goal with "10-And-A-Half Questions With...." is to give you a chance to meet some of these top players and learn how they worked to hone their skills so that they had the opportunity to excel in high school and advance to become collegiate softball players.
The Barb Beckett scholarship, Billie Drake scholarship and the Charles Bott scholarship, each in the amount of $500, were awarded earlier this year to high school seniors in Grand Traverse County who played softball through their senior year and who exemplified a high level of academic achievement while volunteering in the community.
The 2022 scholarship recipients include Traverse City Central's Kailey Poortenga and a pair of seniors from Kingsley High School, Leslie Hamilton (L) and Karly Roelofs (R), with Billie Drake in the middle. Congratulations, ladies!
It takes a lot of dedicated umpires to be able to host the large number of teams that participate in the Traverse City tournaments. We're fortunate to have some of the best umpires in Michigan in the local area. Thanks, gals and guys, for your good work on the softball fields!
The Waves is an organization formed in 2004 and based in Traverse City that provides the opportunity for young players to learn and enjoy the game of softball. Former Waves players have had successful high school sports and academic careers...played softball in college...earned all-area, all-region, and all-state honors in softball and other sports...made successful transitions into college, graduated from college, and established professional careers. The Waves organization has funded over $15,000 in college scholarships--the Barb Beckett, Billie Drake and Charlex Bott Scholarships, named after three prominent supporters of youth sports in the Traverse City area--and continues to emphasize providing opportunities for girls to excel while having fun playing softball.
The Waves hosted the seventeenth Traverse City Softball Spectacular in 2022. Because of overwhelmingly positive feedback from our visiting teams, we added the Northern Classic tournament in 2008 to allow more teams the opportunity to combine a mini-vacation in the Traverse City area with a first class, enjoyable tournament. The Cherry Capital Showdown was added to the tournament schedule several years ago and has become a favorite among teams from throughout the state and the midwest. In 2016, the Spring Splash was added to the series, an early-season tournament for younger teams. The five-year-old Bayside Bash offers older teams a chance to play in a fun, quality tournament. Finally, 2016 also saw the start of the Futures Challenge, a one-day tune-up tournament for teams that have just selected their squads for the next summer season. We hope to be able to welcome your team to one of our tournaments!
We realize that certain situations happen in the course of running a team--players leave, emergencies come up, etc. From a tournament standpoint, we begin planning for next year's tournaments very shortly after THIS year's tournaments end. By April, the tournament field is largely set and planning for the current year's tournaments has been underway for some time.
If a team notifies us prior to April 1st that their plans have changed, we can refund their entry fee. If we're notified on or after April 1st, unfortunately no refunds can be given.
Refund Policy once the tournament begins: - If no (0) games are played, 70% of each team’s tournament registration fee will be refunded. If games are played (at least one round played to completion) the registration fee is fully earned and no refunds will be given. If tourney must be cancelled due to act of God, prior to the start, teams will be refunded 80% of their entry fee.
